Adventure: Leaving It All Behind (aka get your house ready to sell)

As you already know when you’re on an adventure of the sort that the hubby and kids and I are on there’s one thing you most assuredly must face:  leaving it all behind.

And by it I mean your house, your stuff…it.

(I haven’t even begun to let myself think about the it as in my friends, family and comfort of the known).

So when you’re leaving it all behind you more than likely need to get your house ready to sell, which is what the hubby and I have been working on lately.  Considering much of our home is already “staged” to an extent many friends have asked, “You have to get your house ready to sell?  It’s already ready.”

Well, it may appear ready to put on the market but in reality there are some minor things we must do to make this home a house…a house for sale that anyone could walk into and love and buy from us.

If you’re on an adventure, too, or simply need to ready your house for the real estate market, here are some helpful blogs and websites to get your space ready for that buyer:

Stage It: Question from The Stories of A to Z

Hi Jennifer!

It looks like we’ll be putting our home on the market soon.  Question for you:  My first floor is done in Barley by Benjamin Moore (light neutrally yellow) and the kitchen is an obnoxious red.  I’m definitely repainting the red but to do away with the yellow/red theme going on would mean a bunch more money.  In your professional opinion is it necessary?  You can see my first floor here http://www.thestoriesofa2z.com/2010/04/parade-of-homes-party-house-tour-master.html
Thanks!!!
Beth

If you haven’t read Beth’s blog, you are missing out.  She has impeccable taste, endless creativity and blunt honesty.  Her question regarding doing completely away with her current decor to put the house on the market is one a lot of homeowners face when preparing their home to sell.

Here was my suggestion for Beth’s kitchen area:

With just a quick look, I think all you would need to do is paint the kitchen a more neutral color, like the Barley by Benjamin Moore that you have in your other rooms on the first floor.  It looks great and it’s actually good to have pops of color, like in the accessories & other removable items, because it adds interest to the rooms and gives it a cozy-factor for the buyers.  So bottom-line:  just paint the kitchen walls & you don’t need to do away with the yellow/red theme you have going on.

What I love is that Beth is keeping her yellow/red decor, but updating the look by incorporating blues.  To see what she’s working on visit here.  And if you have a question about home staging, feel free to email me at 1bella.stager@gmail.com.

A Beautiful Home for a Growing Family

A Beautiful Home for a Growing Family

This past week I had the pleasure of staging a beautiful 2000+ sq. ft. home, with great curb appeal and a good backyard.  Since it was vacant, I wanted to be sure that the unique features of the home were highlighted through the use of furniture placement and light decor.  For more photos of this home, see the “Home Staging” section of Bella Grace Home.  Debbie Lufburrow of Covington Real Estate is the agent for this amazing 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house located in Temple, TX.  http://www.covingtonsells.com/MyHomeDtl.asp?HomeID=1069068&P=2000

When you first enter the home your eyes gravitate toward the back wall, which was empty and bare before the staging.  I strategially placed three metal pieces to add warmth to the room.  The furniture placement also adds a sense of belonging, as it’s set up in a conversation-style arrangement in front of the fireplace.

And look at this amazing fireplace!  It just begs for someone to take a seat and relax with a book or chat with a friend.

Before the staging, it would have been difficult for buyers to know what to do with this area in the kitchen.  But with this simple table and two chairs potential buyers can easily picture themselves drinking their morning cup of coffee or checking their email before work here in this welcoming breakfast nook.

This special display shelf in the dining room wasn’t getting the credit it deserved sitting empty and bare, so I took a few empty picture  frames and staggered them to add depth and interest to the area.  I then placed a clean, white pitcher and a bright green apple for more depth and a punch of color.  Buyers will certainly be wowed by this bonus feature in the dining room.

The spacious master bedroom will surely get noticed now that it has this amazing bed and two side tables to accentuate the lovely pair of windows in the room.  A beautifully made-up bed will make even the grumpiest of people smile!  At least I’d like to think so.   This bed took some creativity on my part…more on that in another blog!

The spa-like features of the master bathroom were emphasized with this lovely arrangement I created for the tub.  All of the bathrooms in this home create a sense of relaxation and rejuvenation.  This simple creation just mirrors that reality.
